a weekend away

it started out with a chance of thunderstorms and mom and dad even had the weather alerts warning them not to travel that morning. the day turned out to be a beautiful one, and i think the thunderstorms were a blessing because they kept the crowds from being too heavy for our weekend in gruene. we checked out gruene market days, antique shops, good food and even test drove the pool. thankfully our kids are content to play on the top step of the pool because that water was COLD!!



dinner started at the grist mill, but with an hour wait i was off to find someplace else to eat. i really didn't think i could last an hour. by the time our table was ready at the new place we would've been sitting down at the grist mill. this is exactly why i always laugh at people doing the line dance at HEB. choosing a line that looks shorter never means that you'll actually make it to the front quicker! i must say i was not disappointed by our second choice. i believe it was called the gruene river grill, and the building was very cool and old with huge rooms and tall ceilings and brick walls. it was great for cooling down on a hot day or warming up on a cold one. and the food was fantastic! i would recommend it to anyone headed to gruene for a visit.

i couldn't resist this picture. either erik or i are typically behind the camera, and here i am showing brody a picture on erik's phone as he (very patiently for his 3year old self) waited for dinner, and my dad snapped this one. i just love it! seriously, a profile shot that i love . . . what a rarity! i think this is one that i'll treasure in my heart for sometime :)
